Q: How much does it cost to rent a storage unit?

A: Like unit availability, unit pricing varies by the size and location. Be sure to contact your local facility to learn rental rates for each unit. Our friendly team members are more than happy to help find the right unit for your budget.

Q: Do your units have climate control? How do I know I need one?

A: Temperature controlled units, also known as a climate-controlled storage, are available at some facilities. These storage spaces are temperature-regulated and keep their humidity level steady throughout the year. Climate controlled storage is important for items that are sensitive to temperature or humidity, such as:

A: To rent a storage unit, you need a current government-issued photo ID, proof of address, and a phone number we can use to reach you.

Q: Can I reserve a storage unit and make an appointment before renting?

A: Yes! Reserving your self storage unit is a great way to ensure it’s available. If you want to learn more about our facilities, stop by your local Five Star Storage location. You don’t need an appointment, but calling ahead allows us to dedicate time to giving you a full tour and all the information you need.

Q: What if I need more or less space once I get moved in?

A: Sometimes you need more space. Sometimes you need less. We’re flexible: If you need a smaller unit, larger unit, or even another additional unit after you move in, speak to a manager. We can help make it happen.

Facility Features and Amenities

Q: What are your business hours?

A: Hours of operation vary by facility. Many locations have office hours during the week and are typically open from 9 am to 5:30pm. Some locations do offer weekend office hours, as well. You may typically access your unit 7 days a week, although gate access times do vary. Some locations offer 24-hour access.

Q: Who has access to my storage unit? If I get locked out or lose a key, can you help?

A: You do. We do not have a master key. When you rent a storage unit, you’ll provide the lock. If something happens and you need the lock removed, a locksmith can help. We’ll be more than happy to recommend a local expert.

Do all facilities have the same features and amenities?

A: While most of our facilities offer online bill pay, drive-up units, convenient night lighting, video surveillance, and other amenities, it’s important to ask about features that are specific to your facility.

Moving and Storage Tips

Do you sell boxes in your facility?

A: Yes! We’re happy to sell several different types of moving and storage supplies, including boxes, packing tape, and other materials. Our goal is to make moving—and storage, of course—as simple as possible!

Q: Do you have movers?

A; While we do not offer moving services at our facilities, we do know several reputable moving companies in the area. Just ask! Some facilities also have moving trucks available to rent.

Can you accommodate large moving vans or trucks?

A: Our wide driveways can easily accommodate large moving vehicles.

Do you have any advice on packing my storage space?

A: Yes. In addition to knowledgeable staff that can help you, we also offer a selection of helpful moving and packing tips on our website!

Payment, Leasing, and Insurance

Can I pay my bill automatically each month?

A: You can! In addition to automatic bill pay, we also offer online bill pay options for your convenience.

Will you send me a monthly invoice or reminder?

A: If you’d like regular reminders of monthly rental dues, we can send them to you via email.

Do I need insurance to rent a storage unit?

A: Insurance isn’t required, but we do recommend it. Many of our locations offer a tenant insurance program. Be sure to check with your renters or homeowner’s insurance company about any benefits, too.
